Self Care

Self-care means taking care of oneself to maintain physical, mental, and emotional health.

The main objective is to enhance emotional safety and overall well-being through creating greater self-awareness, effectively managing stress, and strengthening social connections. Most people recognise the importance of self-care, but prioritising it remains a challenge for many people who are very busy, struggle with self-worth or are not used to caring for themselves in this way. Self-care, not only promotes personal well-being but also enables individuals to perform more effectively in both personal and professional contexts.

Self-care can be practiced in many different ways. Finding the right method for you is key to experiencing the benefits of your self-care.

Some simple methods include
  • consciously feeling the breeze on your skin,

  • mindfully walking around the supermarket or

  • feeling the warmth of the sun on your back as you hang out the washing a little slower than usual,

  • deep breathing in your office chair every hour or

  • sticking to boundaries so the day runs more smoothly.

Other methods take more time or effort such as
  • journaling, painting, taking a bath,

  • meeting a friend for a walk,

  • spending time in nature,

  • going for a swim or

  • reading a good book.

It is important to find the right self-care for you. It needs to fit your lifestyle, values, time constraints, personality, mood and energy levels.

Finding the right method is key to experiencing the many short term and long term benefits of self-care.
